XOBDO.ORG Holds Annual Meeting, Outlines Vision for 2025

Guwahati, Assam – January 9, 2025 – XOBDO.ORG proudly announces the successful conclusion of its annual meeting held on January 8, 2025, online via Google Meet. The meeting brought together key members of the organization to discuss significant achievements and future initiatives.

During the meeting, the renewal of XOBDO.ORG’s registration under the Registration of Societies Act was announced. It is hoped that the registration would fostering a strong foundation for operational growth. The members unanimously confirmed the leadership team, ensuring continuity in their respective roles to drive the society's activities forward.

Key resolutions adopted during the meeting include:

-Enhancements to the Assamese-English Dictionary: Plans to refine and expand the dictionary, incorporating new words, audio pronunciations, and additional language features.

- Improving Website Usability: Engagement of a professional UX designer to enhance the website's interface and user experience.

- Development of the “Litikai” Tool: Upgrading the spell-checker tool using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for improved functionality and accessibility.

- Validation of Language Data: Efforts to engage native speakers for quality checking and expanding data for lesser-known languages.

- Establishment of Certification Programs: Introduction of certificates for Assamese-English translation proficiency and pronunciation, ensuring quality standards and value.

In addition, the society aims to boost awareness and participation through regular webinars, workshops, and promotional efforts utilizing various media channels.

"2025 is set to be a transformative year for XOBDO.ORG," said President Bikram M. Baruah. "With our renewed commitment to enhancing linguistic resources and engaging the community, we look forward to making a positive impact on language preservation and education."

XOBDO.ORG is dedicated to the promotion and preservation of Assamese and other regional languages, fostering linguistic diversity and cultural heritage.

শেহতীয়াকৈ ছ’চাইটি পঞ্জীয়ন আইনৰ অধীনত XOBDO.ORG ৰ পঞ্জীয়ন নৱীকৰণ সফলতাৰে সম্পন্ন হোৱাৰ বাবে বৈঠকত উপস্থিত সদস্যসকলে সন্তোষ প্ৰকাশ কৰে।

আশা কৰা হৈছে যে এই পঞ্জীয়নে অনুষ্ঠানটিৰ কাৰ্য্যকৰী বিকাশৰ অৰ্থে এক শক্তিশালী ভেটি গঢ়ি তুলিব। সদস্যসকলে সৰ্বসন্মতিক্ৰমে অনুষ্ঠানটিৰ নেতৃত্ব বহনকাৰী গোটটোক পুনৰ আগন্তুক এক বছৰৰ বাবে দায়িত্ব প্ৰদান কৰে আৰু অনুষ্ঠানটোৰ কৰ্মসূচী ৰূপায়ণৰ বাবে কৰ্তৃত্ব দিয়ে৷

• ব্যৱহাৰকাৰীৰ অভিজ্ঞতা অধিক সুচল কৰাৰ উদ্দেশ্যে এজন পেছাদাৰী UX ডিজাইনাৰ নিয়োজিত কৰি ৱেব্‌ছাইট্‌টোৰ ব্যৱহাৰযোগ্যতা উন্নীত কৰা হ’ব৷

তদুপৰি, বিভিন্ন সংবাদ মাধ্যম ব্যৱহাৰ কৰি নিয়মীয়া ৱেবিনাৰ, কৰ্মশালা, আৰু প্ৰচাৰমূলক প্ৰচেষ্টাৰ জৰিয়তে XOBDO.ORG আৰু ইয়াৰ কাৰ্য্যাৱলী সম্পৰ্কে সজাগতা সৃষ্টি আৰু অংশগ্ৰহণকাৰীৰ সংখ্যা বৃদ্ধি কৰাৰ প্ৰয়াস কৰা হ’ব।

সভাৰ শেষত সভাপতি বিক্ৰম ম. বৰুৱাই ২০২৫ বৰ্ষটো XOBDO.ORG ৰ বাবে এক সফল ৰূপান্তৰণৰ বছৰ হ’ব বুলি আশা প্ৰকাশ কৰে।

উল্লেখযোগ্য যে, XOBDO.ORG অসমীয়া আৰু উত্তৰ-পূৰ্বাঞ্চলৰ অন্যান্য থলুৱা ভাষাৰ প্ৰসাৰ আৰু সংৰক্ষণৰ বাবে উৎসৰ্গিত এক বেচৰকাৰী অনুষ্ঠান৷

XOBDO.ORG presentation at Tangla Schools

One of XOBDO.ORG's members, Ms. Karishma Boro (KB) visited UN Academy Senior Secondary School Tangla on September 14, 2023 with a purpose of teaching students the process of words entry at xobdo.org.

Before visiting the school, KB came to know that the school don't have projector facilities, so KB prepared to share files on their phones and teach the login process, word entry process, and took printouts of important pages as well. However, after visiting the school, KB discovered that children are not permitted to bring phones to the school.

Therefore, KB verbally discussed on lexicography, XOBDO.ORG, the distinction between online and offline dictionaries, the significance of language digitization, current status of XOBDO.ORG's Bodo words etc. She also explained, how they can contribute words, and how XOBDO.ORG can help them develop their skills.

Later, KB demonstrated the students how to search words on XOBDO.ORG using print-outs. KB began  asking them if they used Google to look up words and whether they could find Bodo words online. The answer was an overwhelming "no". Then, KB introduced XOBDO.ORG and showed print-outs to illustrate them. The fact that the meaning of the Bodo word can also be accessed online surprised the students. Since the majority of the students come from rural areas, they lack internet access and require additional technical education.

KB could only demonstrate how they can search words at Xobdo, as it was also different to show the words entry process without projector and phones. The students also lacked required IT skills. Hence, KB then explained what email is. She also explained how Devanagari Script was adopted by Bodos and she advised students to develop IT skills in this era of interest for better job opportunities. KB also shared her contact no. with the students and collected everyone’s phone nos. to share the process of word entry in Video . KB requested everyone to take part in contributing words in Xobdo and encouraged them to use Xobdo.org .

Online workshop based on the "XOBDO Vision 2022-27" document held

Guwahati:  The projects planned based on the "XOBDO Vision 2022-27" document were discussed at a workshop held on 13th March at 7 pm via zoom platform.  The workshop was anchored by Dr. Buljit Buragohain, Publicity Secretary of XOBDO.ORG and Bikram Mojinder Baruah and Pallav Saikia explained the projects. The questionnaire prepared in order to identify interested volunteers, enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, researchers, workers and financiers was released in the workshop.  The discussion of the workshop can be viewed in XOBDO’s YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/xobdotv/videos). In the workshop Debojit Bharali, Anjana Bordoloi, Tara Bhuyan, Pankaj Kumar Dutta, Samadrita Goswami, Dibyajyoti Borgohain, Dr. Punya Lota Gohain, Prasanta Borah etc. offered constructive suggestions.
